It’s finally here! The smell of sugar and butter has made it to Alexandria City. On Friday, September 27, the Bradlee Shopping Center welcomed the newest Crumbl location. The opening has been long awaited, especially because it is so close to many local high schools, which includes. On opening day, many teens from local high schools lined up, with wait times exceeding two hours just to try these cookies.
With all of the buzz on social media, and the menu that rotates, exchanging its unique flavors weekly, Crumbl has gained a cult following. The Crumbl menu is far from ordinary, filled with one-of-a-kind desserts like Banana Upside-Down Cake, Cornbread Cookie, and Cookies & Cream Milkshake Cookie. Whether they may appear to be odd, people are drawn into the appeal of being able to try something that’s only available for a limited time.
Regarding the new Bradlee location, students at St. Stephen’s and St. Agnes had mixed feelings. Some students said that they had a good experience, and others didn’t. Senior Hayley Lookadoo rated her experience a 6/10. She said that both times she went, she waited over twenty minutes for her orders, and the first time she went they messed it up. Junior, Evan Hamon rated his experience a little better, 7/10, saying his only complaint was that he waited 15 minutes for his order but he feels that the cookies would have been the same at any other Crumbl location.
The owners of the Bradlee franchise have experience with Crumbl, having franchised other locations in the Virginia area. We reached out for an interview and they did not respond.
To add to the Crumbl excitement, there is also a new Crumbl Club at SSSAS. The leaders are seniors Jamie Hodgkinson, Maddie Moore, and Alex Jones. Crumbl Club is a fun way to get students together for a shared love of cookies, but the mission of the club goes beyond eating cookies. Jamie Hodgkinson said, “We’re supporting a foundation called Know Your Lemons, which supports breast cancer awareness. And so we thought, not only were we gonna bring people together to eat these cookies, but we were gonna also find a way to raise money for this cause.”
Know Your Lemons is an organization that was created with the goal to spread awareness on the early detection of breast cancer. To join Crumbl Club, members paid a one-time Venmo fee of eight dollars, and this money goes to funding to buy the cookies. They also plan on doing bake sales throughout the year so they can donate money to Know Your Lemons.
Having a Crumbl just minutes away from our school is a fun and exciting change. Even though reviews have been mixed regarding the cookies’ quality, due to the location of the Bradlee Crumbl it is a highly accessible store to visit.
