Every season of the NBA brings something new to the sport. Whether it’s new players coming out of college or superstars going to a brand new team, every season has its big moments. And these moments start with the draft and the offseason moves by teams.
The offseason was the time for many teams to make their moves and improve their teams. Some additions include Russell Westbrook to the Denver Nuggets, who is looking to be a starter, Mikal Bridges to the New York Knicks, Chris Paul to the San Antonio Spurs teaming up with Wembanyama, Paul George to the Philadelphia 76ers, Buddy Hield to the Golden State Warriors, Josh Giddy to the Chicago Bulls for Alex Caruso to the Oklahoma City Thunder, and Demar DeRozan to the Sacramento Kings. One major addition was Klay Thompson to the Dallas Mavericks. Klay has spent his whole career on the Warriors, and after an abysmal season, he was considering a trade. Recently, Karl Anthony Towns has been traded to the New York Knicks. In exchange, the Minnesota Timberwolves will receive Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo. These new players will play very well with their new teams and improve their chances of getting the championship title.
The new NBA season means new faces on the court and many new playstyles that have never been seen before. Some top picks included G League Ignite teammates Alex Sarr, 2nd pick, going to the Washington Wizards, and Ron Holland, pick 5, going to the Detroit Pistons. More draft picks include UConn teammates Stephon Castle at pick 4 to the Spurs and Donovan Clingan at pick 7 to the Portland Trailblazers. The surprise pick of the draft was Purdes Zach Edey going a pick 9 when originally he wasn’t even supposed to be chosen in the top 20 picks. Other players like Reed Sheppard, Rob Dillingham from Kentucky, and Jared McCain from Duke also made their draft appearance. But later in the second draft round, one shock was that the Lakers drafted Bronny James at pick 55, Lebron’s oldest son out of USC. This surprised the world and will make them the first father-son duo to play together in NBA history. With the draft class picked and suited up for the 2024-2025 season, this could be a memorable season.
The Wizards are looking up, and what other way is there to look after such an abysmal season. Key additions include our three first-round picks Alex Sarr, Bub Carrington, and Kyshawn George. Along with them, we gained Jonas Valenciunas, Malcolm Brogden, and Saddiq Bey. There was much criticism to this draft class but all of these players are going to serve as solid role players for years to come. There were also many critics of this Wizards team, predicting that we would finish as a bottom-three team in the league. This will not be the case. The Wizards starting lineup is going to look like: Jordan Poole at Point Guard, Bilal Coulibay at the two, Kyle Kuzma at the three, Alex Sarr at the Power Forward Position, and new addition Jonas Valenciunas at Center. With this lineup, this could be a decent team, but they are still rebuilding and improving so who knows what could happen in the future of this franchise.
With the rosters set and predictions coming in, this year’s NBA season looks like a great one to follow. Many new highlights and plays could happen this year, and the fans are excited for the sport to kick off.
