As the leaves begin to change from refreshing greens to cozy reds, oranges, and yellows, the St. Stephen’s and St. Agnes School students’ wardrobes are changing as well. The sundress summer is over, and cozy girl autumn is just around the corner. Excited about the changing seasons, we interviewed students from around campus asking them what they saw in fashion as they returned to school.
We asked sophomore Isabella Cortez what she has been noticing trending around campus, as well as in the world. Isabella noticed that the streetwear style is coming back in with clothes such as jorts, cargo pants, and boxers becoming popular. Isabella is excited about this new trend and is planning on adopting this trend and making it her own.
Isabella also notices that sambas have made a comeback and she believes that Uggs and bows are here to stay. She predicts that accessories such as stacked necklaces will also make an appearance in a lot of students’ accessories.
Charlotte Koch, a junior at SSSAS, agreed that wide leg pants and cargo pants were coming in. Charlotte also recognized that shoes like ballerina flats, Frye boots, and any kind of Adidas sneakers
have become increasingly popular as fall approaches. She remarked that chunky cardigans overtop a “tight little dress” are being worn around SSSAS a lot more. Charlotte agrees that bows will probably still stay in trend but will not be as used anymore. Instead, she thinks that heart accessories will become increasingly popular.
Senior and SCA Co-president Elliot Desautels agrees that cardigans are coming back this fall along with tall boots. She explains that she gets a lot of fashion inspiration from her mom and friends; “I just kind of absorb the fashion around me.” She also explains that her outfits change throughout the seasons. For example, she would wear a “cute outfit with jeans” during the spring and fall but during the winter when it gets cold she would wear leggings and a sweatshirt to stay warm.
Many students we interviewed would agree on the fashion trends seen around school. Some of their favorite places to shop are Brandy Melville, Zara, Forever 21, Amazon, Cider, Garage, Edikted, and for a statement piece, Free People. Some would also agree that they may want to keep the leggings in their drawers, and spice up their wardrobe with jeans from time to time.
Emily Montgomery, a senior, says that in all of high school she has always worn leggings and can’t recall ever wearing a pair of jeans. She says that as it gets colder this fall, she can see herself branching into corduroys and away from lululemon leggings. On the other hand, Charlotte Koch “hates leggings,” she realizes this a hot take because of how popular they are at SSSAS. Charlotte finds them to be super uncomfortable, and would prefer yoga pants or flare leggings instead. This is because you can dress them up, while leggings demote you to a sweatshirt or all athletic outfit. It seems that Saints are looking to up their outfit-game this Fall.
However, It’s not just day-to-day wear that Saints are focused on this fall. The search for Homecoming dresses is also a heavy weight on their shoulders. Seniors Maddie Moore and Emily Montgomery stated their thoughts on Homecoming Dresses this year.
Maddie says that the dresses she and her friends have checked out are way different than what they are seeing on social media. They noticed that many girls on tiktok are wearing what are referred to as “Sunday Brunch Dresses,” which is more of a sundress than a formal dress. The seniors are happy that Saints stick to formal dresses instead of following all tiktok trends.
Saints seem to be branching away from the traditional tight, “bodycon” dress style this year. For Hoco many are looking for something more “fancy.” These “fancy” dresses are dresses that flare at the bottom. Emily also noted that strapless dresses give more of a formal look.
Looking for dresses has consisted of endless hours scrolling through online stores such as Revolve, Lucy in the Sky, and PepperMayo. However, the shipping can be questionable and people agree that getting your dress sooner rather than later is ideal. Emily says that PepperMayo has “broken many hearts this week, including mine.”
This fall is going to be a collage of different styles, patterns, and trends. Let’s hope we can all keep up!
