Ever since the Upper School store added snacks and food last year, they have had a rising number of students going to the school store. Though the majority of the customers at the school store are Upper School students, they are not the only ones who spend money there. Students from the middle and lower school spend money there as well. We’ve talked to students, teachers and the two who do it all and run the school store.
We interviewed Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Speed about how it is running the school store and they had a lot of helpful input. According to Mrs.Hale and Mrs. Speed 40-50% of upper school students come to the school store at least once a day. It’s tough to manage them and get them in and out as quickly as possible.
Usually students come during the transition period , lunch and STAT. During transition periods it is usually very crowded, with people trying to get snacks for their next class while making it on time.
We interviewed students about what they get, how many times they go to the school store, and when they go. Students usually go to the school store during lunch or class transition time which usually leads to them being a little late to their class or just barely making it.
Students usually go at least twice a day and are usually very interested in the snacks and sometimes clothes if needed. Students usually use their student accounts to cover their bill “Because it’s[The school store] free” Aden Wright ‘27 stated. Though sometimes students use their own money, lots of parents don’t know about the school store and how much kids use the school account. Based on the responses from the three students we spoke to, they said they spend about $8-10 at the school store everyday.
We also asked about the popularity of certain items or the best sellers and Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Speed said the most popular items in the school stores are the gummies(such as nerd clusters, sour patch and the sweetish fish), takis, snacks, and Starbucks coffee drinks.
